The Formula for Connecting People (youtube.com)
Poppy Liu, the co-founder of Pure House, believes that we are all seeking deep connection but are always uncomfortable when we find it. As community builders, how do we cultivate spaces where our members are comfortable bringing their whole selves, where we can deliver real value, and where we can start to build unbreakable bonds? Often in our work, “we hope that if we put people together, they’re automatically going to learn how to allow themselves to be seen and embodied and present... but that doesn’t always happen,” she says. We have to make messes. In her talk, she tells us the missing ingredients in most communities: the shared values of “safety, trust, accountability, and nourishment.” To get there, you must infuse your community spaces with vulnerability and authenticity. In order to scale your impact, Poppy emphasizes that localization is key. What works in Bangkok does not work in London or New York. We must localize and personalize. Finally, she shares Pure House’s grounding principles, which you can use in your own community in order to build shared values and a culture of safety.
